Most of the cheeses we sell at The Truffle Cheese Shop come from small farms around the world. We feel fortunate here in Colorado to have so many great cheese makers and small farms. We feel it’s important to visit farms and dairy animals in order to gain a greater understanding of not only the hard work that goes into making cheese, but also to appreciate the flavors and products better.
Each Memorial Day we journey to one of our farms and explore their dairy, visit with the animals and learn a little bit about farm life. Each year, we gather friends, customers and newcomers to the shop, get on a bus and: ROAD TRIP!! The farms and creameries we visit give us full access to their animals, dairy and property as well as a gourmet lunch. In 2013, we will be celebrating our 6th Annual Get-a-Whey at Fruition Farms. For more information, READ HERE.
We will also be heading to rural France twice a year to learn more about cheeses, wine, visit farms and other culinary delights. In 2012, we went to Beaune, France and in 2013, Vouvray as well as Gascony and Toulouse. We plan on visiting other countries as well, probably starting with Northern Italy, Switzerland, Holland and Spain. If you are interested in joining us, please send us an email, call Rob or Karin, or stop by the shop. We would love to have you join us. Also, get more information on our ‘Destination: Cheese’ page.
