Burrata is a relatively new cheese from Puglia, Italy in the Southern tip of the “boot”. It is very similar to Mozzarella, but much creamier and richer in flavor. Burrata is essentially a cream-enriched mozzarella.
The most authentic way to eat Burrata is to place a ball of the cheese on a nice plate, cut it in half and sprinkle with ground pepper. Drizzle heavily with a good olive oil (we like the Sicilian Partana brand) and eat with grilled bread.
Here are some other ways to enjoy your cheese:
- Slice the Burrata and layer with fresh, ripe tomato and
basil - Place the Burrata over a bed of garden arugula and drizzle heavily with olive oil
- Sautee fresh strawberries with a good balsamic and place over the cheese. Eat with bread.
- Toast slices of baguette and top with Burrata and roasted vegetables.
- In a rice salad!
